Hi there I'm Katy!
Copywriter. Editor. Creative Strategist. Dog Lover. Human.
As a native Washingtonian, I was fortunately afforded an upbringing surrounded by history, culture, politics, art — and of course, the people who amplify its rippling impacts on humanity. Viewing the world through this unique perspective undoubtedly fueled my love for storytelling and sharing the language of creativity with others. Boredom is the death of creativity after all, right? This mantra is why I strive to consistently deliver standout work that connects humans, rendering campaign ideas to life both authentically and originatively.

I do not believe in doing anything sub-par, which is why I put deliberate emphasis on thoroughly researching consumer insights during the early conception of a campaign. In my opinion, the writers and strategists who only conduct the rudimentary groundwork for brand research deplete their sales and consumer engagement success outcomes because they have merely penetrated the bigger picture without attention to particular nuances.

I favor the all-or-nothing approach for both short-form copy (headline and social media caption writing), and long-form copy (emails, eCommerce articles, or television scripts). Above all else, I enjoy working as a collaborative team player to craft brand copy that resonates clearly with the target audience and adds value to their lives.

I received my B.A. in political science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels!). It was not until my senior year at UNC that I realized the pre-law track I completed successfully was no longer my career ambition. I discovered after a bit of senioritis-induced anxiety that my passion for storytelling well-surpassed my desire to practice law.
Thus, I spent the last two years dual enrolled at UNC and the Savannah College of Art and Design where I received a second B.A. in Advertising and Branding with a copywriting concentration. My portfolio on this website showcases my student work over multiple media channels of various industries including nonprofits, fashion and jewelry, health and wellness, travel, and more. While building my portfolio, I worked full-time as a marketing communications intern for a federal-focused cybersecurity startup called Joust Corporation. After 6 months, I was promoted to the role of marketing communications specialist within its parent company, Three Sixty Corporation. I currently serve in this role.
Although I would certainly identify myself as writer-first, designer-second, I work comfortably in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Photoshop and Illustrator. I hold a Photoshop certification from Adobe as of March of 2023, so I’m competent in assisting team members when needed for art direction consulting.
In my spare time, I enjoy the company of my friends and family, long-distance running, snuggles with my golden-doodle, and finding an unbeatable slice of pizza downtown.
If you would like to connect with me, please send me a message on the contact page, and I will be in touch.
